Where's the Money?

Market Watch, September 2004

By Don Cochran, regular Market Watch Contributor, Configuration Work Group Review

We can sum up more or less everything that's been happening in the product configurator market space with one very simple question: Where's the money?

The day of the large Configurator implementation is nearly done

Market Watch, January 2005

The day of the large Configurator implementation is nearly gone. Reason: ROI, in a year or less.

Is it up, or is it down?

One moment you read in the most recently reported trends that profits are up and spending is up, and then your read that they're down. The latest forecast, I think, is that spending is up for 2005 by 3% to 8%, but that of course depends on who is doing the interviewing.

Moving VC Models to the IPC

So you're thinking about moving to the IPC? Here's a guideline, maybe even the guideline you've been looking for, offering an overview of what the IPC is, what kind of system you need to run it, and how to prepare your VC models to move them into the IPC world. Marek Duda, Oct. 10, 2005

In this article we will give a short summary of what you need to do to feed your IPC with models of configurable materials which were created in your variant-configuration (VC) module of R/3.

Well, here we are again with the 2007 edition of random ramblings from the Fall 2007 Marco Island CWG conference. It is such a hardship having to deal with the Florida sunsets without a good microbrew. Yuengling isn't bad, but it's a long way from Spotted Cow or Fat Tire.

What to Expect in a VC Project

I got a couple of requests to write up something similiar to the presentation Steve Silvey and I gave at the Marco Island conference in October 2008. After thinking about it for awhile, I thought what the heck, why not? Granted, there won't be much in the way of readership here in CWG land, but you just never know where it will end up..

A Light shines in Darkness ... Or does it?

Now the Valve example might be extreme, but it certainly serves the purpose. If you've got a complex configuration ... and many, many SAP customers do ... then you can easily benefit from Advanced Mode, even if you don't have "solutions," or "systems," or "bottom-up" configuration. It's there, it's in the system, and ... if you've got ERP2005, you've got it. There's absolutely no reason ... no good reason that I can think of, at any rate ... not to take advantage of it ....
